Councillors Community Notes:

Thieves are about!

************************
Never leave items on show when you leave the car, especially any sat nav systems. This and the sat nav cradle should always be removed from unattended vehicles. Do not leave it hidden in the car, and clean the suction cup mark of the holder from the window.
If you must leave items in the vehicle put them in the boot out of sight. If you buy a valuable item, never store it in the boot and then continue shopping.
Handbags, leather jackets, wallets, laptops, cameras and shopping should never be left on view in the vehicle.
Think about where you park - use well lit places or secure car parks if possible.
Never leave car documents or spare keys inside the vehicle.

Keep the inside of the vehicle tidy as an untidy vehicle containing opened mail, plastic bags etc may attract the curiosity of a thief .

************************
Northumberland contains numerous car parks in rural locations which have been preyed on by thieves who steal from unattended motor vehicles.

Northumbria Police have implemented 'Operation Admire' to combat the criminals and to advise the public as follows:

  • Police officers patrols remote car parks and car parks linked to castles,  country homes and other tourist attractions
  • Signage has been erected warning about thieves
  • Signage has been erected instructing people to not leave valuables on display
  • Remote camera equipment is installed to capture images of people and vehicles involved in crime
  • Northumberland County Car Park Wardens patrol the pay and display car parks monitoring activity

If you see any vehicles or people acting suspiciously in and around your property please contact Police immediately - making a note of the registration number, make, model and possible direction of travel. Then please contact Police
